Merrilyn Brady Kirkman

August 27, 1951 — April 18, 2023

West Point

On April 18, 2023, Merrilyn Brady Kirkman reunited with her loved ones, parents, Elna Dorothy Adams and Jack Emery Brady, and her beloved sister Karen Bench. Merrilyn was born on August 27^th, 1951, in Salt Lake City, UT. At her birth, the Doctor proclaimed, “You have another daughter, Mrs. Brady, and she sure is a pretty one!” During Merrilyn‘s early years, her family moved frequently.  Merrilyn made friends in many of these places. Including, Hamilton, Montana, Dutch John, Salt Lake City, and Sunset, Utah. Merrilyn graduated from Clearfield High School in 1969  where she will forever be a FALCON.  She knew her alma mater song by heart!  “To the Clearfield to the green and white, to the best school in the land!”.

Merrilyn was very athletic and enjoyed all types of sports. Softball, volleyball, soccer, and bowling were a few of the sports she enjoyed playing. When she could no longer play, she continued her love of sports, by coaching her kids and even some of her grandkids.

Merrilyn was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was here during a basketball game, that she met her future husband, and love of her life, Lynn Kirkman. She claims she was “drawn in by his blue eyes.” Merrilyn wrote Lynn on his mission and after his return they were married in the Salt Lake City temple for time and all eternity. They celebrated their 50^th anniversary, on June 18^th, 2021.  During their marriage, they were blessed with three children, Gerilyn, CodyAnn, and Lonny. The family farm in West Point became the perfect place to raise their family and cherished animals. Lynn and Merrilyn have had many adventures and laughs together, each one trying to out joke the other. Their happiness and love for their family was contagious.

Merrilyn was a fun Mom and Grandma. She always had a song to sing, a game to play, an excursion to go on, or a player to cheer for! Mom was a seamstress, she made many dresses including, blessing, wedding, dance, and prom. Sewing was truly a talent for her. Together with her Sister Karen, she sewed her way to winning several costume contests. Merrilyn’s talents were used as she faithfully served in many church callings. Her favorite being that of Cub Master, where her silliness, and sense of humor could really shine.

Merrilyn worked for the Davis County School Transportation Department.  She cherished each friendship she made with her coworkers and children she drove, most of which she knew by name.

Merrilyn is survived by her loving husband, Lynn, children: GeriLyn (David) Geisser, CodyAnn (Pedro) Zuniga, and Lonny (Shirlee) Kirkman; ten grandchildren: Cash (Krystal) Ricks, Taylee Beard, Callie Ann Ricks, Jace (Kaitie) Beard, Joshua Beard, Cole Ricks, Jessica, MaryAnn, Rebekah and Samuel Kirkman. Three great grandchildren, Charley, Camden and Calvin and two special grand dogs Anna and Troop. She is also survived by two sisters EllaRae (Tom) Edwards, Joann Schuldies, brother, John (Kim) Brady, sister-in-law Sheila Visser, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents Elna and Jack Brady, sister, Karen (Doug) Bench, in- laws Shirlee and Dean Kirkman, brother-in-law Ralph Visser, and son-in-law Tony Beard.

Until we meet again, we will look for you among the clouds and know you’re waiting for us just beyond the Moon.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am Tuesday, April 25, 2023   at the Lakeside West Point Stake Center, 855 N. 4000 W, in West Point, Utah. Visitation for family and friends will be held Monday, April 24^th, 2023 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South  and Tuesday, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.  at the Stake Center.
