Lorena (Lori) Reed Cummings March 18, 1950 – Dec. 9, 2016

Lorena (Lori) Reed Cummings, 66, passed away at her home in Page on Friday evening, Dec. 9, 2016, after a long battle with cancer. Lori was born on the Navajo Reservation near the Inscription House on March 18, 1950. She was the fourth daughter and seventh child of 14 children born to Joe W. Reed and Della Begay Reed.

Lori attended boarding school in Kayenta before going on the LDS Placement Program in 1959 and stayed with and became part of the family of Lynn and Marjorie Criddle in West Point, Utah. Lori attended and graduated from Clearfield High School in 1969 among the top 5 percent of her class. Lori attended Brigham Young University for three years, graduating with an associate’s of arts degree in 1972. She also attended Rio Salado Community College, where she received a second associate’s degree in 1996.

Lori married Olin Cummings in the Salt Lake City Temple on May 28, 1971.

Lori was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions in the Relief Society, Young Women and Primary organizations.

Lori and Olin moved to Vernal, Utah after Olin’s graduation from BYU and a year later moved to Duchesne, Utah. The desire to be close to her family on the Navajo Reservation inspired their move to Page in 1974. Lori lived in Page the remainder of her life. They had a good life with hard work and service in Page and the Inscription House area of the Navajo Reservation.

Lori and Olin have seven children, six boys and one girl. Lori spent her time raising kids and serving others. Lori enjoyed playing with her kids, watching them play sports and showing compassion and kindness to everyone.

Lori served in the Page Wards for many years, and most recently served in the Bluesalt Branch. She had plans to serve a mission with her husband before her health began to deteriorate.

Lori was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a loving and giving friend.

She loved her family and friends very much. She was always finding ways to help and noticed things that needed to be done, and then she would make sure they got done. She helped many families on the Reservation with gardens, remodeling homes and learning about the gospel. She loved doing things for and spending time with her family and was very grateful to have been able to see them all before she passed.

Lori is survived by her husband, Olin Cummings; her children, Lorin (Sunnie) Cummings, Carminda (Darryl) Cummings Tonemah, Donald (Nicole) Cummings, Samuel (Emmylee) Cummings, Dana (Amber) Cummings, Travis (Karen) Cummings and Christopher Cummings; 19 grandchildren; one great grandson; her mother, Della Reed; sisters, Mildred (Arthur) Manheimer and Theresa (Roger) Parrish; brothers, Henry (Mae) Reed, Roger Reed and Alonzo Reedl; sister, Laverne (Stanley) Saliego; brother, Leo Reed; sister, Rose Reed; and foster sister, Nancy (John) VanBeekum.
