Carl Richard Michael was born August 27, 1949 to Richard Julius Michael and Myrtle Giles Michael of Clearfield, Utah.
Carl grew up with his two older siblings, Diane M. Clark (James) Glendale, Arizona and Robert Michael (Beverly) Santa Monica, California.
Carl is survived by many nieces and nephews who brought true joy and happiness to him.
Carl had many physical challenges yet he was an example of courage, patience and enduring well.
Carl was born with a form of Cerebral Palsy due to difficulty during childbirth. As he grew older it was discovered Carl could hear very little and eventually learned to read lips.
During his early years in grade school he suffered a serious playground accident which resulted with a severe head injury and ultimately triggered epilepsy.
Despite difficulties, ridicule, bullying, torment from his peers, and a two year set-back in school, Carl graduated with his high school diploma from Clearfield High School, in Clearfield, Utah in 1969. This was an enormous accomplishment for Carl and his family. Through trials and opposition, Carl accomplished his journey with a winning attitude.
Carl’s career began at Hill AFB, Utah on a project for Handi-CAPABLE individuals working in the Air Force “MESS Hall”, washing pots, pans and doing dishes. A few years later Carl relocated to the Base Commissary, stocking shelves, working in the dairy department and cleaning the store.
The United States Government enlisted a program for each Air Force Base in the United States to select an Outstanding Handicap Individual from their base. Nominee’s information was sent to Washington D.C. where it was closely examined. Carl was selected as the “Outstanding Handicap Employee” of the year for the United States of America!
Due to government cutbacks, Carl began new employment with Smith Food and Drug. After Carl’s mother passed away, he eventually relocated to Arizona to live under the care of Diane and Jim. Diane and Jim gave much to ensure Carl had the best of everything.
Carl was always happy, a simple “Hello Carl” from a shopper in the store was a big deal and made a difference in his life. Carl made many friends at work. He was a model employee who worked hard giving everything he had. He enjoyed his position of Courtesy Clerk (bagging groceries). He was s tickler on how food was to be placed in bags. Many of Fry’s regular shoppers requested Carl take their groceries to their cars. Fry’s awarded Carl “Outstanding Employee of the Year”.
AS Carl’s health started to decline, Diane knew she and Jim were not going to be able to continue to care for Carl. After two years and many, many, many hours battling the “System”, Carl was able to retire and receive disability.
Carl moved into the home of Moses and Meri Pacurar and their three children. Carl loved his new home and his new family. Thank you Meri for the compassionate, loving care you provided Carl for the past five years.
Carl was happiest when he was spending time with his nieces and nephews, cousins and their families. He loved them all and overflowed with excitement.
Carl’s final vacation was home to Utah where he grew up. He relished spending his last weekend with his family on the couch watching General Conference. Carl passed away peacefully on October 9, 2015.
Our family will deeply miss having Carl’s sweet spirit in our homes.
We know that the memories created throughout his life will in some small measure provide comfort as we go forward in faith.
We love you Uncle Carl – Rest in Peace

Carl was a good man, and was loved by many at CHS. I'm glad for the time I was able to interact with him at school. Regarding Mitch's comment about Carl hosting the Class of 69 Millennial Reunion - Great idea Mitch! None of us will be alive Connie, but maybe in the here after Carl can be the MC.

Connie, My very best friend in the 4th grade at Roy Elementary, Mike Keyes, picked up on my reference to Carl being the MC at our Class of '69 Millenial Reunion. We believe it will be on a much more peaceful, purified earth (love the phrase "Pax Christi" you used) where I will probably be wishing I lived as pure of a life as Carl did. And hopefully, the following will have already have taken effect, ""The spirit and the body shall be reunited again in its perfect form; both limb and joint shall be restored to its proper frame, even as we now are at this time; and we shall be brought to stand before God, knowing even as we know now, . . . Now, this restoration shall come to all, both old and young, both bond and free, both male and female, . . . ; and even there shall not so much as a hair of their heads be lost; Alma 11:43-44 (Happy Day! No more searching for hair-loss treatments or having to wear a hat! 🤠). And I hereby nominate YOU, Connie to EDIT the announcement of the Class of '69 Millenial Reunion! Hahah! C U at the reunion tonight maybe, but I'm not sure how long I can handle 91 degrees at 6pm, 90 at 7. Can we meet at the frozen food section of a Walmart or Smiths next reunion? If so, there also wouldn't be a need for the can of mosquito spray I may be concealing this evening (now where did I lay that can of 40% deet?)
